Shop by silhouette

The silhouette decides more about a room than the leather does.

The Monroe

Deep leather sofa

A sofa built around a long seat and a low back, so the eye stays level across the room and the piece sits calmly under a window.

04 — The material

Understand the hide.

Leather is not one material. A full-grain aniline and a pigmented corrected hide can look alike at three feet and behave nothing alike.

Grain
Pores, growth marks and healed scars stay visible.
Finish
Aniline, semi-aniline, pigmented — three different maintenance promises.
Patina
Light and oils darken the hide unevenly. That is the material working.

05 — Fit

Made to fit the room.

Most sofa regret is a measuring problem, not a taste problem. Width, depth and the route in decide the piece before the leather does.

Overall width
Outside arm to outside arm.
Overall depth
Front of the seat to the back of the frame.
Seat depth
Front edge to back cushion — the comfort number.
Seat height

Why this specialist

One material.
A world of difference.

A sofa is one of the largest and most-used objects in a room.

Leather differs enormously by grain, finish and treatment. Proportion decides how a piece sits in a room. Construction decides how it feels ten years later.

We publish the facts we hold, and leave the rest blank rather than fill it in. That is the whole idea: material, proportion, comfort and construction, considered together.
